NXNE Takes Over MTV Thursday June 12th 2:30PM - 4:30PM
I have been playing in a band for close to 7 years now and in that time I have seen the music industry change rapidly. The joyful days of my youth as a music listener are gone. A simple time when no one knew what an mp3 was and reality television wasn't choking the airtime on our nations music station.
Major labels are reporting record losses and are now suggesting a tax on internet use to combat file sharing. Major media outlets are becoming increasingly corporate in their agenda. Independent music culture is at an all time high in Canada. What will the next decade of music look like? How do we take steps towards a prosperous future for artists, labels, and media alike?
Everyone has their own opinion of what progress is in the music industry. Town hall at this years North by North East music conference is an attempt to bring together 25 representatives from all realms of the musical world to gain perspective on a turbulent music industry. Musicians and journalists, veterans from the front lines, brought together to voice their opinions and share their perspective on an ever changing cultural landscape.
