NFB TO BECOME EXCLUSIVE HOME OF NXNE FILM FESTIVAL
First Ever NXNE Film Festival Wristband Pass Introduced for 2009

The North by Northeast Music and Film Festival & Conference is proud to announce a new and exciting partnership with the National Film Board of Canada Mediatheque as the exclusive location of the 2009 NXNE Film Festival, June 17-21.

The 2009 NXNE Film Festival will feature the centralized location of the NFB for all NXNE galas, screenings and events with filmmakers. The NXNE Film Festival features the planet’s most eclectic schedule of music-related films including concert classics, indie docs, shorts and features. The NFB may even become an alternative venue for live bands prior to screenings.

“NXNE is excited to be expanding our partnership with the NFB this year. Both organizations have similar aims: presenting great new cutting-edge artists to the public. Toronto is a fantastic film town and we want every film fan in the city aware of the NXNE Film Festival. The NFB will help us reach that audience,” said Mike Tanner, NXNE’s Manager of Communications.

For the first time ever, NXNE will be offering a film festival-only wristband pass, available for just $25 at the NXNE offices on Church Street, at the NFB, T.O. TIX, and other downtown locations.  NFB members and supporters receive a $5 discount with NFB membership card or ticket stub at the NXNE offices. NFB members and supporters will also receive discounts there on any NXNE wristbands, available beginning April 2009.

Some international films have already been confirmed for the 2009 NXNE Film Festival including Russia’s Frautschi, an intimate portrait of one of the most influential (and least known) guitar pedagogues in Russia,; Finland’s Mississippi-Nedervetil, where Niko Riippa, the 27-year-old guitar player from the Wentus Blues Band learns life and music lessons from 70-year old Mississippi blues legend Louisiana Red; and from the U.S., the documentary, I Need That Record! The Death (Or Possible Survival) Of The Independent Record Store.
