NeXT-at-NXNE Returns for Fourth Year
NXNE is known for is its stellar showcases, and this year is no different. Back for the fourth year
in a row Dan Burke presents NeXT-at-NXNE, featuring six showcases at two venues – The Silver
Dollar and Velvet Underground. Both iconic clubs are among the almost 30 venues open—and
serving—until 4am during NXNE 09.
Headlining a three-night stand at the Silver Dollar is Montreal’s RED MASS. They are the garagepsych
avant-guardian rockestra created by longtime King Khan/BBQ associate Roy Vucino, cofrontman
of the ferociously brilliant CPC Gangbands. Red Mass is his masterpiece.
Criss-crossing between the two venues, NeXT-at-NXNE is hosting more than twenty bands over
the three evenings. Featured acts include the Toronto debut of GOLDEN TRIANGLE from
Brooklyn, NY, a six-piece gals/guys electro-clash-garage dance party band whose wild live act
won them a $10,000 prize at a star-studded SXSW bash; Tokyo’s THE ZOOBOMBS, who bring
their electrifying live act back to Toronto after a packed five-show extravaganza in 2006; THE
MARK INSIDE, with a new album about to be released; THE SEDATIVES and MOTHER’S
CHILDREN, who bring a slice of Ottawa’s garage-punk “pizza party” to Toronto; and Brooklyn’s
THESE ARE POWERS. Toronto faves THE GHOST IS DANCING and THE HOA HOAS fill out
the line-ups.
