We’re excited to confirm The Flaming Lips as the first NXNE Music artist announcement for 2012. On June 16th the band headlines our Saturday night show at Yonge-Dundas Square, presented by AOL Canada.

The Oklahoma psychedelic alt-rockers are universally recognized as one of pop’s most unique groups. Their turn-of-the-millennium records – 1999′s The Soft Bulletin and 2002′s Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots – positioned the group as one of the most inventive and conceptually flawless around. Centred around lush, manipulated beats, perfect orchestration and expansive production, the two albums are only matched by the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds in imagination and execution.

Over the same period – as if by interstellar design – the act’s multimedia live shows became legendary. A night with The Lips is now guaranteed to be transcendental, and is more then likely to include spaceships, costumed dancers, puppets, tons of confetti and – yes – frontman Wayne Coynes’ signature man-sized, crowd-conquering bubble.

Stay tuned on Twitter and Facebook for further line-up information to follow later this morning.
