You may not know Doc Pomus, but you’re probably familiar with his songs. The blues musician was the writer behind such hits as “Save the Last Dance for Me” and wrote 25 songs for Elvis Presley, including “Viva Las Vegas.” But this prolific hit maker also struggled with crippling polio, loneliness, and heartbreak – many of the issues he wrote about in his songs.
AKA Doc Pomus relives his life and struggles through his own personal journals, read by his dear friend Lou Reed.
See the man behind the hits on the big screen. AKA Doc Pomus screens at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema on Sunday, June 16th at 1 pm.
