Music: Iceage

There’s something about Denmark. Lately, this Scandinavian country of about 5.5 million people has been giving Brooklyn a run for its money by churning out punk bands at an alarming rate.

Iceage is one of those exports worth paying attention to. Their 2011 debut, New Brigade, rocketed the band onto the scene, garnering acclaim – and a Best New Music designation – from the Pitchfork tastemakers and picking up serious praise for its intensity from just about everyone else. This year’s follow up, You’re Nothing, saw them sign to Matador Records. Live, they’ve played with everyone from Black Lungs to White Lung, Fucked Up, and Metz. Have we mentioned that the members of Iceage are also, annoyingly, just in their early 20s? It hardly seems fair.

The music itself is chaotic, energetic, and boasts noisy confidence. Check those inhibitions at the door, because in the words of a fan: “I’m pretty convinced that they don’t give a fuck about anything.”
