NXNE Film: First Wave with BB King + more

Announcing the first wave of NXNE Film and its 30+ movies screening June 13-16 at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema and alternative spaces in Toronto…

You may be busy with our friends over at Hot Docs (and hopefully catching NXNE’s co-presentation of The National’s new doc, Mistaken for Strangers,) but we’re bringing a lot to look forward to this June.
NXNE Film is proud to present the North American premiere of BB King – The Life of Riley on Friday, June 14th. Directed by Jon Brewer, the powerful documentary is an insightful look at legendary bluesman BB King. Narrated by Morgan Freeman (everyone’s favourite omniscient movie voice,) it features Eric Clapton, Bono, Ringo Starr, Carlos Santana, Slash, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Ron Wood, Mick Jagger, Bruce Willis, and more.

As usual there will be plenty of music content – but this year we’ll also be bringing Comedy and Art components to our film screenings.

  • NXNE Comedy: Screening documentaries and shorts, including a collection of comedy shorts selected by Toronto comedy group Laugh Sabbath
  • NXNE Art: Presenting movies and projections throughout the city
