Congratulations to our friends at indie game developers, Pop Sandbox, for the release of their new arcade style indie music game for PS4, Steam, IOS and Android. Why do we care? Because in addition to bad ass aliens the game features some of the best bands to have played NXNE or, who are about to play, as they fight for their galactic lives. The alien-battling band list includes: Fucked Up, METZ, Austra, Purity Ring, HEALTH, Shad, Jully Talk and more. The Everything Is Awesome singing team of Tegan and Sara are forced to join the others in turning their instruments, amplifiers, smoke machines — hell anything — into weapons to repel the aliens that invade their gigs in some of Toronto’s best clubs.
Even an NXNE gig is breached as Lights’ set at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern comes under attack and she battles back to a soundtrack that includes tunes from 14 of the best indie bands.
And you can play the game live on a giant screen at Yonge Dundas Square between Thursday, June 14 – Saturday, June 18 at NXNE’s Game Land site. In addition to live bands, we’ll feature live gaming and E-sports and LOUD on Planet X will be part of the action. The Square will also be filled with many demo gaming opportunities.
The folks from Pop Sandbox will also be part of NXNE’s Interactive Conference, Future Land, at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers Business School Wednesday, June 13 and Thursday, June 14.
We told you the world’s of music and gaming were converging. Well, it’s already happened — on Planet X.
