Rockers & Rollers battle to a 1-1 draw to support Right to Play

The third annual NXNE ‘Put the Boot In’ Charity Soccer match took place at BMO Field (Exhibition Place) on the scorching final afternoon of the festival. The annual 11-on-11 full field soccer match featured footie stars like Jim Creegan from the Barenaked Ladies, Bedouin Soundclash’s Eon Sinclair, Great Big Sea’s Murray Foster, and the Flashing Lights’ Matt Murphy. Also lacing up the boots were CityTV Weather guru Michael Kuss, Anwar Mukhayesh from The Designer Guys (HGTV), plus journalists from the National Post, the Globe and Mail, Pulse Niagara, Bravo!, Proud FM, TCHAD Magazine, KayvonTV, and Chatelaine. Olympic medallist Adam Van Koeverden, on injured reserve, watched from the sidelines.

The match featured the inaugural halftime kids’ game and the usual post-event beer guzzling by party animals on the terrace for players, families and fans alike. As always, proceeds went to Right to Play, an international humanitarian organization whose goals are to create a healthier and safer world through the power of sport and play. Supporters who were not able to attend the game donated to the cause via www.righttoplay.com/nxne . The afternoon also featured an on-site raffle with great prizes donated by a variety of local businesses.
