NORTH BY NORTHEAST MUSIC & FILM FESTIVAL SCREENS ACCLAIMED KURT COBAIN DOC ABOUT A SON

“One of the most eloquent, beautiful and singular music documentaries to surface in recent years.” --Jennie Punter, The Globe & Mail

North by Northeast (NXNE), Canada’s #1 showcase for the best new independent music and music-related films, proudly announces the screening of the Kurt Cobain feature doc About A Son at The Royal Cinema on January 18, 2007.

Over four months in 1993, rock journalist Michael Azzard interviewed Kurt Cobain over four months in 1993, just one year before his suicide. Cobain was disarmingly honest about his upbringing, musical influences, and the price of success and fame. At one point, talking about the chronic stomach pain he lived with, Cobain tells the writer “I just wanted to fucking blow my brains out." And, of course, one year later, he did exactly that.

About A Son, which premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, is a deeply personal look at a complicated man whose music helped define a generation.  Filmmaker A.J. Schnuck juxtaposes Cobain’s haunting voice against striking images of the places, people and events that influenced him most, including bands The Melvins and Queen.  Two of Cobain's friends, Sub Pop producer Steve Fisk and Death Cab for Cutie singer Benjamin Gibbard, provide the film’s score.

North By Northeast Music and Film Festival presents a screening of About A Son on Friday, January 18 at The Royal Cinema, Toronto.
