Please, sir – I want some more!

This year, NORTH BY NORTHEAST (NXNE) will present 780 bands, 40 films and 80 conference panels from June 11-17, 2012 – and serves up more than ever before with NXNE Comedy, The NXNE Record Show, NXNE Yoga, photo exhibits, and special showcases at Pearson International Airport. NXNE is the most anticipated summer music event in Canada and the festival destination for emerging artists and major-label headliners, for music filmmakers, and for digital interactive innovators.

NXNE is proud to present some of the festival’s top acts at NXNE @ YYZ, marking the fifth year that NXNE and Toronto Pearson International Airport have worked together to entertain travelers in this unique collaboration. On Wednesday June 13, travelers passing through Terminal 1 will be treated to sets from alt-country star Justin Rutledge and Damhnait Doyle’s The Heartbroken. And on Thursday June 14, Vancouver country psych outfit Indian Wars and Toronto darlings The Sadies will rock the concourse at Terminal 1.
Comedy Records, a label dedicated to showcasing and supporting all things funny, will present five nights of comedy as part of NXNE. The series features Toronto’s best comedians, including Debra DiGiovanni, Mark DeBonis, Trixx, Scott Thompson’s new sketch troupe Mouth Congress and many more. On Saturday June 16, Kops Records presents The NXNE Record Show in the King Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Toronto, NXNE headquarters during the festival. This one-day vinyl extravaganza will feature niche record dealers from across Ontario, a selection of label vendors, educational stations and on-site entertainment including a DJ set from Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning. Music meets photography at NXNE 2012 with two photo exhibits: The Exhibition About You: The Audience and LIVE @ NXNE. From June 11-17, David Waldman (aka Kid With Camera) will present The Exhibition About You: The Audience at the Great Hall’s The Conversation Room, featuring Waldman’s favourite audience moments from the hundreds of shows he has shot since 2000.
The second photo exhibit, LIVE @ NXNE, features epic performance portraits of NXNE artists, both alumni and current, by 20 Canadian music photographers. This exhibit will also feature a tribute to the late Andrew MacNaughtan, who passed away earlier this year. LIVE @ NXNE will be on display from June 11-27 at #Hashtag Gallery.
