…has just become even more so. The writer who created one of the 20C’s most famous rebels died at 91. Yeah, this is a music & film festival site – but if you somehow missed this bookthen you missed the inspiration behind some great music and film. JD’s gone, but Holden Caulfield is alive & well.

NXNE’s Dutch road trip to Eurosonic spies Holland’s 20-year indie outfit Bettie Serveert rocking the 3Voor club promoting their ninth abum. Carol van Dyk leads the band’s guitar-fuelled charge.

NXNE extends sympathy and condolences to family and friends of musician and writer Paul Quarrington. PQ passed peacefully on January 21, after being diagnosed with cancer last spring. He played NXNE with band Porkbelly Futures and graced the NXNE Film Fest with his short film Pavane, based on one of his many wonderful novels. His Governor-General’s Award-winning novel Whale Music has been called “the greatest rock ‘n roll novel ever written” and spawned a great Canadian film featuring music by the Rheostatics.

We’ll all miss you, Paul.
